DESCRIPTION =========== CCC (working title) is a competitive two-player game that I designed this draft of in a dream. It primarily draws from Checkers and Chess. Other traced inspirations are Tak and Veritas (for Stacking and Unstacking). GOAL ==== Remove your opponent's Pyramids from the board before they can remove yours. HOW TO PLAY =========== Each player must pick a side to play as- Currently, white or black. Choose who goes first by any method you like. If playing multiple games in a row, the loser of the previous game goes first next time. During your turn, you can move one piece of your colour, following its rules, or activate a special power (namely, for the Ring piece). Generally speaking, if a piece of your colour lands on a piece of the opponent's colour, it attacks it. Powers will clarify when this can happen. The game ends on the conclusion of the turn in which either player's Pyramids are destroyed. If both player's Pyramids are destroyed during the same turn, the game ends in a draw, and you should not play again today. ATTACKING ========= General ------- Whenever a piece is moved onto another piece of the opposing colour, it is attacked. The result depends on whether or not either of the pieces have Shields. A) If neither piece has Shields, both are destroyed instantly. B) If one piece has Shields and the other does not, 1 Shield is removed from the Shielded piece, and the other is destroyed. C) If both pieces have Shields, 1 Shield is repeatedly removed from each simultaneously, until either of the above conditions are met. For more information on Shields, see "Ring" under "Pieces". Destroyed pieces are placed to the side of the board, representing the fact that they are out of play. Special Rules ------------- Pyramids, Tall and Short Sticks, and Rectangles can attack pieces of the same colour. Flat Stacks, Construcuted Pyramids, and Pyramid Stacks are attacked one piece at a time, from top to bottom. When a Standing Tall or Short Stick is attacked, instead of being outright destroyed, it is reduced into smaller pieces. A Tall Stick becomes a Short Stick after one unshielded attack. A Short Stick becomes a Rectangle after one unshielded attack. Finally, Rectangles are destroyed if it takes any unshielded attacks. When a Laying Tall or Short Stick is attacked on any space it covers, Shields are always affected first. If it has no Shields, the section(s) that were attacked are destroyed. When a Tall Stick's top or bottom section is destroyed, the remaining sections become a Short Stick. When a Tall Stick's middle section is destroyed, the remaining sections each become a Rectangle. When either of a Short Stick's sections are destroyed, the other section becomes a Rectangle. Stored Power on a Ring count as Shields when it is attacked. Cubes, Rings, and Nice Flags can not attack. Cubes cannot ever be destroyed. Nice Flags can be recreated after being destroyed. PIECES ====== Flats ----- Description: The most common piece, with 16 per player. Flats are in a way the pawns of this game. Movement: Flats can move one space left or right, forwards, and diagonally to forwards-left or forwards-right. Powers: Flats of the same colour can be moved onto each other, creating a Flat Stack. A Flat can jump onto any piece of the opposing colour within its movement range to attack it. If there is a Flat of the opposing colour in its movement range, it can Hop over it, assuming the landing space is empty, like in Checkers. Hops may chain, continuing in any direction, as long as there are more opposing Flats to Hop over. Flat Stack ---------- Description: A tower made out of of 2 to 5 Flats, making them stronger and more unpredictable. Movement: Flat Stacks can move one space forwards, and diagonally forwards-left or forwards-right. Powers: Flat Stacks can grow taller by moving onto Flats of the same colour. Stacks cannot combine with other Stacks. A Flat Stack can be Unstacked, which is done by picking up all but one Flat, and placing one down on every tile in a straight line. Unstacking can be done to the left, right, forwards, forwards-left, or forwards-right of the Flat Stack. Some pieces can only be dropped onto or past if the currently held Flats is greater than or equal to its height. Flat Stacks, Constructed Pyramids, and Pyramid Stacks have a height equal to the number of pieces in it. Standing Tall Sticks have a height of 3. Standing Short Sticks and the Flag both have a height of 2. All other pieces should be treated as having an effective height of 1. Any piece of the opposing colour that a Flat is dropped on to in this way will be attacked. If a Flat is dropped onto another Flat of the same colour, or a Stack with 1 to 4 Flats of the same colour, it is added to the Stack. If a Flat is dropped on any other piece of the same colour, it is destroyed because it cannot fit on top of it. If the line of Flats being dropped goes off of the edge of the board, the Flats that fall out of range are destroyed. Cube ---- Description: While harmless by itself, the Cube can be a thorn in the opponents side. Movement: Cubes can move orthogonally 1 to 5 spaces, as long as the destination is empty. They are able to jump over any pieces (except standing Tall or Short Sticks, and Flags) inbetween itself and the destination. Powers: Any piece that attacks a Cube is destroyed, no matter what. However, Cubes themselves cannot attack. Pyramids -------- Description: A set of three similarly-shaped pieces, of the sizes Small, Medium, and Large. They are the most important pieces. Movement: Pyramids can move in any diagonal direction for an unlimited number of spaces, up to the edge of the board. Pyramids cannot in any way move onto smaller Pyramids, ie. trying to move the Medium Pyramid onto the Small Pyramid. Powers: Pyramids can move onto larger Pyramids of the same colour, creating a Constructed Pyramid. The Small Pyramid can move onto a Medium > Large Constructed Pyramid, to make a Small > Medium > Large Constructed Pyramid. Pyramids can move on top of Flats or Flat Stacks of the same colour, creating a Pyramid Stack. Pyramids can jump onto any piece of the opposing colour within its movement range to attack it. If a Pyramid is moved onto any other piece of the same colour, that piece is destroyed. Constructed Pyramid ------------------- Description: A set of 2 or 3 Pyramids on the same space, making it more powerful, but also a more valuable target. They make take these forms: Small > Medium > Large. Small > Medium. Small > Large. Medium > Large. Movement: Constructed Pyramids can move in any diagonal direction for an unlimited number of spaces, up to the edge of the board. Powers: Constructed Pyramids can Unstack by picking up all but the bottom Pyramid and placing one down on every tile in a straight line. Unstacking can be done in any diagonal direction. Unlike when Unstacking a Flat Stack, dropped Pyramids ignore height rules. Any piece of the opposing colour that a Pyramid is dropped on will be attacked. If a Pyramid is dropped on top of a Flat or Flat Stack of the same colour, it creates a Pyramid Stack. If the Small Pyramid is arranged to drop on top of the Medium Pyramid, it creates a Small > Medium Constructed Pyramid. If a Pyramid is dropped on any other piece of the same colour, except the Cube, that piece is destroyed by its weight. Pyramid Stack ------------- Description: A Pyramid or Constructued Pyramid on top of a Flat or Flat Stack, making a powerful tower. Movement: Pyramid Stacks can move one space in any direction. Powers: Pyramid Stacks can Unstack by picking up all but the bottom Flat, and placing one piece down on every tile in a straight line. Unstacking can be done in any direction. When dropping Pyramids, use the Unstacking rules for a Constructed Pyramid. When dropping Flats, use the Unstacking rules for a Flat Stack. Ring ---- Description: Rings are a potential source of great power, but also potentially vulnerable. Movement: Rings can move orthogonally for any number of spaces, but cannot move beyond any piece in the way. Powers: Rings can Build Power, storing 1 point of Power to use for casting Shields. They can store up to 5 Power. Stored Power effectively counts as Shields on the Ring itself. Rings can cast Shields on other pieces of the same colour. Each Shield costs 1 Power to place. See "attacking" information of the effect. When casting Shields, the action can be repeated as many time as wanted until the Ring is out of stored Power, or nothing can be Shielded. It can repeatedly cast Shield on the same or a different piece every time. Cubes, Flags, and the Ring itself cannot be given Shields. Flats, the Small Pyramid, and Rectangles can be given up to 1 shield. The Medium Pyramid, and Short Stick can be given up to 2 shields. The Large Pyramid, and Tall Stick can be given up to 3 shields. Flats and Pyramids in a Flat Stack, Constructed Pyramid, or Pyramid Stack each have individual shield counts. However, when casting Shield on a Flat Stack, Constructed Pyramid, or Pyramid Stack, only the top piece can receive Shields. Tall Stick ---------- Description: Tall Sticks are versatile and dangerous on the field, but must expose themselves to attack. Movement: If Standing, a Tall Stick can Fall in any orthogonal direction, as long as it would not lay across the edge of the board. If Laying Down, a Tall Stick can Roll to either side, or move into Standing position empty spaces next to either long end of it. Powers: When a Tall Stick Falls or Rolls, it attacks the three spaces it lands across, regardless of piece colour. A Tall Stick in this position is referred to as a "Laying Tall Stick." Short Stick ----------- Description: "Created" when a Tall Stick took damage, but was not destroyed. See "attacking" for more information. Movement: If Standing, a Short Stick can Fall in any orthogonal direction, as long as it would not lay across the edge of the board. If Laying Down, a Short Stick can Roll to either side, or move into Standing position into an empty space next to either long end of it. Powers: When a Short Stick Falls or Rolls, it attacks the two spaces it lands across, regardless of piece colour. A Short Stick in this position is referred to as a "Laying Short Stick." Rectangle --------- Description: "Created" when a Tall or Short Stick took damage, but was not destroyed. See "attacking" for more information. Movement: One space in any direction. Powers: Any piece in the space it lands in is attacked, regardless of piece colour. ??? --- Description: I believe there was one more piece in my dream, between the Medium Pyramid and the Nice Flag, but I don't remember what it was. Movement: Unknown. Powers: Unknown. Nice Flag --------- Description: A pleasant piece to help liven up the mood of the game. It says "COOL MOVE" on it. Movement: Similar to a Knight from Chess, but with one additional space to each line of the "L". In other words, it can move three spaces in an orthogonal direction followed by two more spaces in a parallel direction. Visually rearranging the "L", as in moving two then three spaces, does not change its possibility space for destinations. Powers: When moved, you must compliment the opponent for their most recent turn. Be positive, not sarcastic. This means that the Nice Flag cannot be moved on the very first turn of the game. If the Nice Flag has been destroyed, it can be replaced in its original location, if you give a compliment on the opponents strategy. The Nice Flag cannot attack. However, because it is so nice, any piece next to it cannot move or act in any way. This restriction does indeed affect the opponents Nice Flag, locking them in place until one is destroyed.
